Hike in the Maroulena Gorge – 11 January

Salonica View organizes an adventurous hike in the impressive Maroulena Gorge.

A few words about our hike:

We will depart from Nicosia (Cyprus Handicraft Centre) with destination the gorge at Kalo Chorio Oreinis. We will all gather at the entrance of the gorge, where the hiking guide/escort will brief us on how the group will move and provide information about the route.

We will walk the “Pikrovrysi tis Merikas” trail, which offers a unique experience that is rarely encountered. Our route begins along a beautiful wooden walkway that follows the flow of the Maroulena River, inside the impressive gorge. The landscape, full of lush greenery and natural sounds, creates a peaceful and unique atmosphere.

Later along the route, we will ascend the mountain and admire the breathtaking panoramic view of the gorge. At the end of the hike, there will be time to rest and have lunch at a local tavern before returning to Nicosia.

A few words about the Gorge:

Maroulena Gorge is located very close to the village of Kalo Chorio Oreinis. The formation of the gorge is the result of the confluence of two rivers, Farmakas and Marounella.
The geological significance of the gorge is high, as visitors can closely observe and admire massive boulders from the Earth’s crust.

Difficulty level: 2 (easy to moderate)

The price includes:

1. Escort and organization
2. Trainers with specialization in outdoor activities
3. Bus transportation from and back to Nicosia

You must bring with you:

1. Hiking shoes (preferably, as some parts of the trail can be slippery) or good athletic shoes
2. Hiking trousers or leggings
3. Extra T-shirt, socks, small towel (change of clothes)
4. Snacks and water
5. Backpack
6. Waterproof jacket (mandatory)
7. Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
8. Tissues
9. Hiking poles (optional, but recommended for this hike)
10. Camera (optional)

Note 1: For the smooth operation of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the escorts.

Note 2: In case of cancellation of the event due to adverse weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot attend on the new date will receive a refund. If weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently cancelled and all participants will receive a full refund.

Note 3:Photographic material is shared on our page and on social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you accept the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please inform us accordingly.

Note 4 – Cancellation Policy: In case of cancellation less than 48 hours before the event or non-attendance at the activity/excursion, participants will be required to cover the full participation cost. This policy applies to cover operational expenses and reservations already made.

Note 5: The escorts reserve the right to adjust the stops of the excursion and the program according to the available time, without omitting important points of interest.

After completing your booking, 6–7 days before the excursion, we will contact you to confirm your details and participation.

INFORMATION REGARDING ALL OUR EXCURSIONS:

Four days before the excursion, usually on Wednesday, an official update will be sent to all participants regarding whether the excursion will take place.

Confirmation depends on:

1. completion of the required minimum number of participants,
2. weather conditions,
3. and other organizational factors.
