Nowadays, sailing is gaining more and more ground in its emergence as an outdoor activity especially widespread in Greece. In fact, it is the third dominant sport after swimming and rowing and has been part of the Olympic Games since 1900 in Paris. Apart from the sports part, it is also considered a leisure activity. The sail is the piece of fabric used in the old days by sailors, which was tied to the mast to give more impetus to the boat, while the second component of the word sailing in greek comes from the ancient Greek word ‘πλους’ which means sailing by boat. As for the way it works, it is worth clarifying that it is an activity that is done individually but mainly in groups with the help of an experienced or more guides (skipper). Through this collaboration, everyone can learn the ways of handling the sails, basic knots, rules of aerodynamics, and of course ways of balance on the boat.

  • A raincoat or oilskin
  • A change of clothes
