Rafting

We see posts everywhere on the internet about excursions that include river descent or commonly known as Rafting, but without knowing any further information. When we talk about rafting, first of all, let's emphasize that it is a team sport of river descent with inflatable boats. The capacity of a boat varies from 6-12 people including the driver. The experienced driver at the rear guides the crew and gives them the appropriate commands to paddle accordingly, so as to avoid the physical obstacles encountered during the descent. Many people may be afraid to hear that you are going down a river wondering how fast it will be if it requires some extra skills and of course how dangerous it is. Like most sports, Rafting has a level of danger. The grades are as follows:

Grade 1: Very small wild areas, may require some maneuvering, but not something dangerous (Level: Beginner)

Grade 2: A little wild water, maybe a few rocks, some maneuvers may be required (Level: Beginner)

Grade 3: Small waves when flowing with foam, there may be a slight sharp drop, but no significant risk. May require significant maneuvering. (Level: Medium)

Grade 4: Medium waves during the flow of foam, there may be rocks, perhaps a significant sharp drop. Some abrupt maneuvers may be required (Level: Difficult)

Grade 5: Large waves during the flow with foam, large volume, with the presence of large rocks and hazards. There may be large falls, where precise maneuvers are required. (Level: Very difficult)

Grade 6: This Category is considered to be dangerous and in no way safe. Rowers must expect to encounter significant turbulence, huge waves, with massive white foam, huge rocks, and many dangers. The falls can be quite severe and the boat and equipment can not withstand them. Crossing a river has a dramatically increased chance of resulting in serious injury or death compared to the smaller classes, while rescue may be impossible. (Level: Only certified rafting guides with extensive experience)

Equipment provided in a Rafting activity

  1. A double buoyancy lifebuoy
  2. A helmet
  3. An oar
  4. An isothermal suit, always depending on the water temperature
  5. Shoes with non-slip soles

Equipment that participants must have with them

  1. Second pair of socks, pants, blouse (In some cases you may need a third)
  2. Flip flops or slippers
  3. Body towel
  4. Sunscreen

In any case, this is an activity that offers a wealth of experiences that will be unforgettable. Such as crossing a beautiful gorge, of which Greece has many. Such as the acquaintance with the people you will be invited to paddle together and complete the required kilometers. Too much more we could mention. Remember, however, as you study the difficulty levels of a route that its purpose is to enjoy it. Therefore you will define what pleasure is for you !!!
