Hiking on the ice makers' path in Chortiatis - October 12

The alternative tourism agency Salonica View organizes a hike on the Icemakers' Path in Chortiatis and a visit to the S.E.O. Refuge.

A few words about our event:

The meeting point of our group will be the starting point of the path, which is located 950 m. after the square of the village of Chortiatis on Kisseos Street https://maps.app.goo.gl/8XVkUE5W1is7RNj46 . Initially, we will move uphill from the most famous and beautiful path of Chortiatis, the Icemakers' Path. We will have the pleasure of walking through the dense beech and chestnut forest but also to see Lake Koroneia from above until we reach the S.E.O. Refuge

At the end of the route we will stop for rest, food and drinks (not included in the price) in the beautiful area of ​​the S.E.O. shelter.

The route will be linear 4 km. and relatively easy, the path only at the beginning has a more intense uphill slope for about 1 km but along the way it becomes gentler so that it is also suitable for children from 10 years of age and older.

Our final destination will be the point where we started our hike. Our excursion does not include transportation, therefore everyone is responsible for their arrival and return to the meeting point.

c) Distance: 8 km.

Points of interest:

Chortiatis: It is a mountain in Thessaloniki. It has an altitude of 1,201 meters and is located Northeast of Thessaloniki. In ancient times it was called Kissos and at its foot is the town of the same name, which is a martyred settlement, as it was burned by the Germans on September 2nd, 1944 and the entire male population was executed.

Ice Makers' Path: This path, also known as the Ice Makers' Path, is the most popular route in Chortiatis. It took its name from the old Chortiatines, where on very cold winter nights, they would climb the mountain, create ice and then sell it to the wealthy families of Thessaloniki.

Flora and Fauna: The mountain at its lowest points is covered by holly and dogwood. The next vegetation zone is chestnut forests and mainly broad-leaved oak. The upper vegetation zone is the beech zone. Also, the flora of Chortiatis includes the species: Hellebore the fragrant, Galanthus of Elves, Crocus the beautiful and Neotinea the trident.

Note 1. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot participate on the specified date will be refunded. However, if weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently canceled and everyone will be refunded.

Note 2. Photographic material is shared on our page and social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you agree to the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please let us know.

Note 3. For the best operation of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the escorts.

Note 4. Cancellation policy: in case of cancellation less than 48 hours before the event or your failure to appear at the activity/excursion, you will be required to cover the full cost of your participation. This policy applies to the coverage of operating expenses and reservations that have already been made.
