The office of outdoor activities and sports tourism Salonica View organizes a one-day excursion and climb to the top of Gola Tsouka in Paiko from Thessaloniki.

A few words about Paiko:

Mount Paiko is located in Central Macedonia on the border of the prefectures of Pella and Kilkis with the peak of Gola-Tsouka at an altitude of 1,650 meters. Paiko is the largest forest in Greece with rich vegetation full of chestnut trees. On the mountain, there are about 4,500 acres of chestnuts, of which 2,500 are cultivable. Its name comes from the Slavic Pajak which means spider. A suitable name if one considers that it spreads with low hills in a large area that resembles a cobweb.

A few words about the Gola Tsouka peak:

Gola Tsouka is the top of Mount Paiko and reaches 1,650 meters. The name of the peak Gola Tsuka comes from the Slavic gola which means naked-bald since there are no trees at the top.

A few words about the route:

Our route will start just outside the village of Kastaneri, a road that is at the height of the "detachable" route of Stavopotamos. We will start walking in a fairytale landscape, a beautiful forest full of chestnut trees that as we climb give way to beeches. Now we move on the well-known Roman path that smoothly takes us to the top. As we hike we can not help but notice the color palette created by the shades from the leaves of the trees. The forest now begins to thin as we reach the ridge, which we follow to reach the summit. When we reach the top we will have the opportunity to see a unique view. Hiking to the top of Gola Tsuka is a fascinating climb into a unique autumn landscape that no one should miss.
