The Salonica View alternative and sports tourism office organizes a one-day excursion with a hike on the Byzantine path of H.M. Eikosifinissa and then a visit to the town of Nikisiani.
A few words about our excursion:
At a distance of about two hours from Thessaloniki is the village of Kormitsa in the prefecture of Serres at an altitude of 300m. in the northwestern foothills of Mt. Pangaeus. Just outside the village, our hike will begin where we will follow the old Byzantine stone path used by pilgrims to the historic nunnery of Eikosifinissa. The route is easy, about 4km long, with an altitude difference of 350m. and lasting 2 hours! After we arrive at the monastery there will be time to visit and make a pilgrimage to the monastery. Then we will board the bus and head to the town of Nikisiani. There we will have free time for rest, coffee and food. So after a day full of wonderful memories with hiking and pilgrimage, we will take the road back to our beautiful Thessaloniki!
Points of interest:
Byzantine path of H.M. Eikosifinissa:
is an eminently sacred path, as it was built by Saint Germanos, founder of H.M. Eikosifonissas and that is why its marking also contains some inspiring passages from the Holy Bible. Excellent Byzantine cobblestone was used by the monks and later the nuns as access to the monastery before the asphalt road was built in the Monastery.
Holy Monastery of Eikosifinissa:
is a historic monastery of great importance, as it is one of the largest pilgrimages in Macedonia and the oldest active monastery in Greece and Europe. It is located at an altitude of 750m. in a wooded area on Mount Pangaeo. It was founded by Saint Germanos after his return from Palestine, in 518 AD. The handmade miraculous icon of Panagia Eikosifinissa located inside the monastery is available for visitors to visit. Another feature of the monastery is the two cypress trees that miraculously grow for many years on the roof of the church.

- Sufficient snacks such as sandwiches, cereal bars, nuts, fruit, etc. (there will be no food stop)
- Water at least 1 or 1.5 liters
- Backpack
- Waterproof jacket (required)
- Tissues, wet wipes
- Trekking pole (optional)
- Camera (optional)

Note 1. When you click to book, state in the message where you will take the bus from. The options are Voulgari (Everest), Aristotelous (Statue of Venizelos). E.g. Statue of Venizelos
Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion is moved to another date. Participants who are unable to participate on that date will be refunded. However, if again the weather conditions do not allow the event to take place, the event is permanently canceled and everyone is refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the date of the event, the money is not returned.
Note 3. Photographic material is shared on our page and social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you also accept the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please let us know.
Note 4. For the best functioning of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the attendants.
