The alternative tourism agency Salonica View organizes a wonderful one-day hike and climb to the Five Towers peak in the Pieria Mountains.
A few words about our trip:
The starting point for the Five Towers Peak is Katerini's Mountaineering Club Refuge in the village of Ano Milia, which it is approximately 1.5 hours by car from Thessaloniki. Initially, we will move uphill in a unique autumn landscape full of towering beech trees. The path we will follow passes through a beautiful pine forest. Arriving at the top and if the weather permits, we will face the impressive view of the peaks of Olympus. We will have the opportunity to see Titaros and the plain of Elassona. Points of interest:
Pieria Mountains: It is a mountain mass northwest of Olympus. Their area is shared between the Prefectures of Pieria, Kozani, and Imathia. Pieria is a sprawling mountain, highly wooded and full of character. It does not impress with its height but with its beautiful and long routes and the tranquility of the landscape. It receives a lot of snow in winter and early spring. The highest peak is Flambouro (2,188 m.)
Flora: We will encounter some rare species of wildflowers. We will also have the opportunity to see rich and varied vegetation from dense forests of beech, oak, and chestnut, black and red pines, while shrubs and deciduous trees will be found at the lower levels.
Ano Milia: The village is only 25 km from the center of Katerinis. The village is built at an altitude of 600 m. At 1,022 m. is the Shelter of the Mountaineering Association of Katerinis.
