The alternative tourism agency Salonica View organizes a one-day hike to the Mouries (Belles) waterfall and a visit to Lake Doirani from the Skopje side, North Macedonia.
A few words about our excursion:
We will start by bus from Thessaloniki and head towards Kilkis. From there, after almost two hours of travel, we will turn towards the village of Mouries. Entering the village, we will continue our journey to the beginning of the forest road where our hike will start. Then we will enter a path through a beech forest to reach the impressive Mouries waterfall at approximately 715 m.! A waterfall with a strong flow of water all year round, created by a stream that originates from Mount Belles at an altitude of 1450 m. After completing our hike, we will return to our bus and visit Lake Doirani (Skopje) where we will have free time to rest and have a coffee before returning to Thessaloniki. You can also bring a swimsuit with you as there are swimming spots in shops with sun loungers. Anyone who does not wish to cross the border can have free time at Lake Doirani from the Greek side.
A few words about our hike to the waterfall:
At the beginning of the trail there is a recreation area with benches, a kiosk and table seats. Our hike will initially start on a forest road and then on a path through an impressive forest until we reach the impressive Mouria waterfall. The path is relatively easy to pass, and with gentle slopes. The waterfall is 720 meters long. We will have time to enjoy the waterfall. Then we will return back by the same route. Along our hiking route we will encounter a forest full of beech, oak and ancient plane trees.
The Mouries waterfall:
It is located on Mount Belles, north of the village of Mouries in Kilkis. The water flow is high all year round and comes from a stream that originates from Mount Belles at an altitude of approximately 1450 m. The waterfall is located at an altitude of approximately 720 m. The stream then heads south towards the Mouries Railway Station and after joining other streams in the area, it turns west and flows into Lake Doirani.

Duration including return: approximately 3.30 - 4 hours
Difficulty level: 1-2

Note 1. When you click to make a reservation, state in the message where you will take the bus. The options are Voulgari (Everest), Aristotelous (Venizelos Statue) or One Salonica.
Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot participate on the specified date will receive a refund. However, if weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently canceled and everyone will receive a refund. In case of cancellation by participants 7 days or less before the event date, the money will not be refunded.
Note 3. Photographic material is shared on our page and social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you agree to the sharing of photos. If not, please let us know.
