The Salonica View team is organizing a one-day excursion and hike to the "hidden" paths of Chortiatis, a unique route where we will walk among black pine trees! Pilgrimage to the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior & Panagia Chortaitissis. Christmas atmosphere at the S.E.O. Chortiatis shelter.
A few words about our excursion:
The meeting point will be the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior & Panagia Chortaitissis in Chortiatis https://shorturl.at/mDT4R, where after our pilgrimage to the Monastery we will take our cars again to climb a little higher to the antennas of Chortiatis http://bit.ly/3xv24GC where our hike will begin.
Chortiatis is located at the foot of Mount Chortiatis southeast of Thessaloniki, 18 kilometers from the city center. During the Macedonian struggle, the people of Chortiatis fought with the most important Macedonian fighter, the chieftain Georgios Alexopoulos. During the Occupation, the Holocaust of Chortiatis took place in Chortiatis, on September 2, 1944, by the German occupiers.
On Mount Chortiatis, near the settlement, is the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior & Panagia Chortaitissis, which was founded in 1961 and we will have the opportunity to visit for a pilgrimage.
Our hike will start on an asphalt road for about 1km until we enter a path and see the stunningly beautiful landscape of black pine, discovering the "unknown" beauties of Chortiatis! As we ascend, we will see a panoramic view of beautiful Thessaloniki as well as the Thermaic Gulf and part of Halkidiki, weather permitting.
Our route will continue to the S. E. O. shelter where we will have the opportunity to stop for rest and coffee (food/drinks are not included in the price) with a Christmas atmosphere. We will continue the last part of the hike with an optional climb to the top, if we can bear it and we all want it, and the weather conditions are worth it to see the view from the top. Then return to the original starting point (antennas).
A hike of medium difficulty, aimed at hikers and nature lovers with moderate physical condition. Also suitable for children over 10 years old.
Then we will visit the tavern "KYNIGOS" in the village of Chortiatis for food (food/drinks are not included in the price).

• Total route length: 9 km. (circular)
• Total elevation gain: 248 meters
• Total hiking time (with stops): 3 – 4 hours
• Difficulty level: 2+ (scale 1 – 5, good physical condition)
• Suitable for children: 10+ (accompanied by a parent/guardian)

Note 1. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot participate on the specific date will receive a refund. However, if the weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently canceled and everyone will be refunded. In case of cancellation by participants, 7 days or less before the event date, the money will not be refunded.
Note 2. Photographic material is shared on our website and social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you agree to the sharing of photos. If not, please let us know.
Note 3. For the best operation of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the attendants.
