Overview

The Salonica View team organizes a one-day adventure trip to the spectacular Krasta Gorge.

A few words about our trip:

at a distance of about 1:30 hours from Thessaloniki, near the forest and agricultural lands of the communities of Giannakochorio, Rodochori, and Marina of the prefecture of Imathia, flows the river Mega Rema, where we meet the gorge of Krasta.

Our hike will start from the village of Giannakochori and specifically from the village square, crossing a gravel road for about 15 minutes we will reach the starting point of the hike with the final destination being the waterfall where we will have time for a swim.

Our hike will be special and highly enjoyable as it will be necessary to wade 10 times up to the knees through water and 2 times up to the waist while crossing the river. So it is certain that it will be a cool and pleasant hike of about 2 hours until we reach the waterfall. And our adventure becomes even more enjoyable at the point where we will climb a rope of about three meters during our route to the waterfall! There will be time for diving, taking photos and enjoying nature under the cool waters of the waterfall. We will definitely need to have second clothes and shoes with us so that we can change at the end. Also definitely bring water with us as the canyon water is not potable.

The route in the gorge to the waterfall is easy without big altitude differences and a total duration of 5 hours (round trip). Then we will visit Giannakochori where we will have free time for food, coffee, and rest in the village square.

You consider the hike relatively easy and it is aimed at everyone and children over 10 years old always accompanied by a guardian.

Points of interest:

Krastas Gorge:

it is 90m long, and 100-250m high, and is located approximately 300m above sea level. The hill of Krasta at a height of 520m. dominates with the limestone rocks where in the spring we meet the queen of herbs, the crimson wild peony. There we will also meet the Askitario, a two-story building with battlements where about 200 years ago it was the seat of bandits. There are also reports of caves nearby where they were used as a hidden school.
