Overview

The Salonica View alternative tourism office organizes a one-day excursion and hike to the beautiful Kounoupitsa waterfall in Pozar Baths.

A few words about our trip:

The route starts after the restaurant with the pool, where on the right there is an uphill path to the cave. The marking for the waterfall is in yellow. After half an hour we reach a point with a view towards the stream of Agios Nikolaos and the baths. After another 1 hour, we will meet at a kiosk and a guardhouse, which is the junction for Sokol peak. From there we are half an hour away from the waterfall. The return will be by the same road.

Track features:

a) Degree of difficulty: level 2 (Participants must be in relatively good physical condition).

b) Altitude difference: the lowest point is 453 meters and the highest is 798 meters.

c) Route duration: 6 hours (including breaks).

d) Distance: 12 km.

Points of interest:

The waterfall of Kounoupitsa: 12 meters high.

The great ravine of Rhamno Bor: consists of three central branches of streams, Issio Pefko (Rhamno Bor), Louta and Kounoupitsa stream. After the union of the above streams begins the stream of Agios Nikolaos (Thermopotamos). In some parts of the route, the view is breathtaking!

Pozar Baths: natural pools where the thermal waters bubble up between the stones. The water penetrates deep into the ground, carrying with it minerals and other components. It then heats up and rises higher with the help of underground gases. The waters were declared medicinal in the 1920s. The word "Pozar" means burning coal or after coal. This is also the name of the old Loutraki. It is possible that it once burned or was burned, and from its rebuilding on the ruins, it was called Pozar.
