The Salonica View team organizes trekking in Kefalovrysos of Kythrea, Lapithos, and Kyrenia.
A few words about our visit:
We will start from Nicosia (Cypriot Handicrafts Center) and head towards the roadblock of Agios Dometios. We will pass by bus outside our occupied villages, Trachona, Madres Famagusta, Mia Milia, and Neo village until we reach our first destination which is Kefalovryso of Kythrea. There, we will have the opportunity to see the historic Kefalovrisos which was considered the largest source of running water in Cyprus. Then we will continue to our next destination which is Lapithos. There will be a stop and we will have time for a short tour of the village. Finally, we will continue our journey to reach our last destination, Kyrenia, for our next stop. In Kyrenia, we will have free time to rest. From Kyrenia, we will take the main highway that leads to Nicosia and the free areas.
A few words about the Kefalovrysos of Kythrea:
The Kefalovryso of Kythrea was considered the largest source of running water in Cyprus. That is why, until the end of the 1920s, Kythrea and its surroundings were one of the most productive areas of Cyprus. The spring is located in the highest part of the residential area at an altitude of 264 meters. The spring is covered by a vaulted structure, the bota as it is called, which is spacious and allows for comfortable circulation.
A few words about Lapithos:
Lapithos is a municipality of Kyrenia District in Cyprus. It is one of the three municipalities of Kyrenia District. Lapithos owes, to a large extent, its economic development and prosperity to its headwater, which is the largest source of water in the province of Kyrenia and the second largest in Cyprus after the headwater of Kythrea.
A few words about Kyrenia:
Kyrenia is one of the six cities of Cyprus and the capital of the province of the same name, one of the six provinces of the island. It is one of the ancient cities of Cyprus, as its name shows, which preserves the name of Kyrenia, the most ancient city of Achaia. It is actually two cities, "Kato Kyrenia" which extends around its small port, of very limited capabilities, and "Upper Kyrenia" which extends further south. Kyrenia is built on the northern coast of Cyprus, opposite the southern coast of Asia Minor, and has behind it the impressive mountain range of Pentadaktylos
