A settlement was abandoned about 150 years ago. In a two-hour meeting with the man who pioneered its restoration, we will learn the reasons. Participants in an interactive way (e.g. washing clothes in the river) will learn about the occupations of the residents. In addition we will walk on a wonderful path through the forest full of pines and olive groves. At the end there will be time for a picnic in the picnic area.
A few words about our hiking activity:
We will start from Nicosia and go by bus to the excursion site Mantra of Kambiou. There will be a tour of the infrastructure of the picnic area and then we will get back on the bus and be transferred to the starting point of the trail. Our hike will start from there. The hiking guide will inform us how the group will move and give us some information about the route. During the route there will also be a small guided tour. On our hike, we will learn why the inhabitants left the village and we will be able to see the farmers' fields and olive groves up close. We will also have the opportunity to see a faithful copy of the houses of that time. The route is circular and we will finish again at the picnic area. At the end of our hike we will have time to rest. Full of new knowledge and experiences we will board our bus to return back to Nicosia.

Points of interest:
Ruins of the Helidonia settlement: It dates back to around the 13th century and the inhabitants abandoned it in 1840 when a deadly pandemic broke out and wiped out most of the village's population.
Model of the houses of the settlement: Next to the settlement, a faithful replica of a house has been built to show visitors the type of house they had at that time.
Walking next to the Gialia river: At this point is the spring where the villagers drank water. In the greatest drought, the water never stopped.
Stone-built spring of the settlement: Next to the stone, the inhabitants washed their clothes
Ruins of the church of Agios Kyriakos of Anachyrotis
Kamini: In the village it was used by the inhabitants for the processing of copper and the extraction of tar from pine wood.
Aloni: Here they separated the straw, wheat and barley
** There will be an interactive activity reenacting how the residents used to wash their clothes in the river. (If this is possible)

Note 1. For the best functioning of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the attendants.
Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion is moved to another date. Participants unable to participate on that date will be refunded. However, if again the weather conditions do not allow the event to take place, the event is permanently canceled and everyone is refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the date of the event, the money is not returned.
