Overview

The Salonica View team is organizing a pilgrimage to Saint George Symvoulas, Saint Paraskevi in Geroskipo, and Saint George in Pegeia.

A few words about our excursion:

Our group will start from Nicosia (Cyprus Handicraft Center) in the morning. Then, we will embark on the first stop in Kofinou and then a stop in Limassol. Our first stop will be the Holy Monastery of Symvoulos Christ, dedicated to Saint George the Trophy Bearer, located between the community of Sotiras Limassol and the English Bases of the Diocese. Then we will head to the center of Geroskipou, 3.5 kilometers east of Paphos to visit the church of Saint Paraskevi. The church is one of the most important Byzantine churches in Cyprus, dating back to the 9th century. Our last destination will be the church of Saint George in Pegeia. At the end of our excursion, we will go for lunch and rest in Kathikas before our return to Nicosia.

Holy Monastery of Symvoulos Christ

Dates from the 6th-7th century AD. According to local tradition, the site was revealed after a miraculous sign in 1991, and since then thousands of believers have come to worship the grace of the Saint, to see his two miraculous icons, as well as his holy relics. Many report healings and miraculous incidents that occurred in the area from the day of the revelation onwards. The name of the monastery is said to be related to the Holy Bible or – according to another version – to the councils that used to take place there, between bishops of the local Churches. Its coastal location made it vulnerable to attacks, and during the Arab raids of the 7th-9th centuries, it suffered looting and destruction, with testimonies of the massacre of the monks of the time.

The Church of Saint Paraskevi

Located in Geroskipou, it is one of the most important Byzantine churches in Cyprus, dating back to the 9th century. It stands out for its five-domed architecture, unique on the island, and the frescoes that cover various periods from the 9th to the 15th centuries.

The Church of Saint George

Located in Pegeia, it is an impressive stone-built church that dominates near the sea, offering magnificent views and sunsets. The area is known for its natural beauty and is a popular destination for visitors who wish to combine a spiritual experience with the enjoyment of Cypriot nature.
