Overview

The Salonica View team is organizing a pilgrimage to the Chrysorogiatissa Monastery, a visit to the village of the Virgin Mary of Paphos, and the Stone of Romios.

A few words about our one-day trip:

We will start by bus from Nicosia and after stopping in Kofinou and Limassol for boarding, we will continue to the Chrysorogiatissa Monastery where we will also stop for a pilgrimage. Then we will board the bus again and go for a coffee in the village of Virgin Mary. Then we will go for lunch in the village of Kannaviou, which is built on the west bank of the Ezousa River, at an average altitude of 350 meters. Then we will take the return route via Tsada and make our last stop at Stone of Romios, one of the most legendary and picturesque destinations in Cyprus, where according to tradition, the goddess Aphrodite was born from the foam of the sea. After enjoying the magnificent scenery, we will return to our bus to take the return route.

Monastery of Virgin Mary Chrysorrogiatissa:

It was founded in 1152 AD by the monk Ignatius. Its name comes from the icon of the Virgin Mary, which offers golden milk from golden breasts, although the explanation given today refers to a golden pomegranate (“to our Lady of the Golden Pomegranate”, say the locals) or because it is built on Mount Rogia. It is located in a beautiful location near the village of Virgin Mary and west of the Paphos forest. The buildings of the Monastery date back to 1770. Above the three entrances of the church, there are impressive frescoes. In the Monastery there is an icon of Christ and the Virgin Mary covered with gold and silver, it is believed that this icon was painted by the Evangelist Luke.

The monastery used to operate as a center for the protection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons as well as other treasures, while a Byzantine museum was recently created. It is worth noting that the old winery of the Monastery produces some of the best wines on our island.

Stone of Romios
A legendary and magical destination, the Stone of Romios is known for its impressive beauty and the legends that surround it. According to mythology, it is the spot where the goddess Aphrodite emerged from the waves, making it the birthplace of the goddess of love and beauty. The impressive rock and golden shore create a landscape that captivates every visitor, offering a sense of magic and tranquility.
