The Salonica View team organizes a pilgrimage trip to the Kykkos Monastery and the Monastery of Agios Ioannis Lampadisti.
A few words about our trip:
We will start from Nicosia and head for a pilgrimage to Kykkos Monastery. During our route, we will first stop for a pilgrimage to Agios Ioannis Lampadisti and then we will have free time for coffee in the village of Kalopanagiotis. Then we will depart again for the Kykkou Monastery where we will have time for a pilgrimage. Then we will get back on the bus heading towards Troodos through the village of Prodromos where we will stop for food in the village of Kakopetria.
A few words about St. John the Lampadisti:
The church of the monastery came from the union of three churches: Agios Herakleides, Agios Ioannis Lampadistis, and the church of Akathistos Himnos which was formerly a Latin chapel. Important frescoes are preserved in the church buildings. The church of Lampadistis was rebuilt at the beginning of the 18th century except for the North-East buttress and arch above the tomb of the Saint where the cart is kept in a silver case. The original church was from the 12th century.
A few words about Kykkos Monastery:
The Kykkos Monastery is located in the mountainous area of Marathasa Valley and is the richest Monastery on the island. It is located at the top of the mountain, at an altitude of 1,318 meters. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Monastery has one of the three icons attributed to the Apostle and Evangelist Luke. The image is plated with silver and kept in a case of tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl and is placed in front of the iconostasis. The Monastery burned several times and nothing remained of its original building. Religious festivals are held on September 8 (Birth of the Virgin) and August 15 (Assumption of the Virgin). There is also a museum on the grounds of the Monastery.
