The Salonica View team is organizing a one-day excursion to Saint Paraskevi in Geroskipou, a pilgrimage to Saint Raphael in Pachyammos, a visit to the Dragon's Cave in Pomos, and lunch in Polis Chrysochous.

A few words about our excursion:

Our group will start from Nicosia (Cyprus Handicraft Center) in the morning. Then, we will board at the first stop in Kofinou and then a stop in Limassol. Then we will visit the holy church of Saint Paraskevi in Geroskipou. There we will have time to rest and have coffee before continuing our journey. Then we will visit the Holy Church of Saint Raphael in Pachyammos for a pilgrimage. Then we will transfer to our bus and return to the village of Pomos in the Paphos district. In the village, we will go to the Dragon's Cave, a rocky cave of particular natural beauty, with an opening to the sea. The route we will follow from Polis Chrysochous to Pachyammos is next to the coastline of the sea. At the end, there will be time for lunch and rest in Polis Chrysochous, before returning back to Nicosia.

A few words about the church of Saint Raphael:

The Church of Saint Raphael in Pachyammos is located at the foot of Lorovounou, in a remote area that was severely tested in August 1964 by Turkish air raids. The church is a Byzantine-style building, decorated with a wooden carved iconostasis with images of Saints. According to religious tradition, it was erected six years after a miracle that Saint Raphael performed on a resident of his area. Every year the church receives thousands of visitors from all over Cyprus and abroad. From the church grounds visitors can admire the magnificent view that lies before them.

A few words about the Dragon's Cave:

The Cave is located in the village of Pomos. It is a rocky cave of particular natural beauty, with an opening to the sea. The cave is deep and even fresh water comes out of it to this day. In the past, tradition said that ships would arrive in the area and rob the area. In this cave was the famous Dragon, who protected the area from the evils that were happening at that time. Another version spread by the residents is that the cave was inhabited by the Dragon and Dracaena, who guarded the water as a precious commodity. This version is also linked to the two large pillow-shaped rocks located outside the cave that the “couple” is said to have used to rest.

The Church of Saint Paraskevi

Located in Geroskipou, it is one of the most important Byzantine churches in Cyprus, dating back to the 9th century. It stands out for its five-domed architecture, unique on the island, and the frescoes that cover various periods from the 9th to the 15th century.
