The Salonica View alternative and sports tourism office organises a one-day hiking trip to the highest point of Cyprus - Artemis trail.
A few words about our trip:
Our excursion will start from Nicosia and specifically from the handicraft centre. Together with the experienced leader-companion of our office we will start our adventure on the Artemis path 300m from the connection point of Chionistras - Troodos - Prodromou. The route is circular for 7km, around the top of Olympus (Xionistra) at an altitude of 1850m and offers excellent views in all directions. It is literally a top walk, as it consists of two paths, one of which is the Artemis path, which we will explore together. Its course is parallel to the second Atalanti path and in some places the paths approach each other. The route does not have a significant gradient until towards the end after the Ski Center where the route becomes slightly uphill for 200-300 metres. After our beautiful hike we will visit Trooditsa and then we will have lunch (buffet) in Prodromos. So after replenishing the calories we burned, now full of energy and beautiful images from our refreshing hike, we will return to Nicosia.

Points of interest:
Τhe black pine forest, rare species of flora and rocks of the area. We will have the opportunity to access the two centuries-old black pine trees (Pinus nigra subsp. Pallasiana) which are about 500 years old.
We will also observe the rich and rare flora (with species such as catnip, germanders, Sweet alyssum, german chamomile and juniperus foetidissima) and the rocks of the area (such as dunite, harzburgite, pyroxenite).
We will enjoy the very beautiful view towards areas and villages of the provinces of Limassol, Paphos and Nicosia.
The entire route is located within the Troodos National Forest Park which is a NATURA 2000 area.
Of historical interest are "The Tisias of the Old Country", which are ruins of rough fortifications built during the last year of the Venetian occupation of Cyprus (1571AD) by a group of Venetian generals who decided to defend themselves there against the Turks.

Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion is moved to another date. Participants unable to participate on that date will be refunded. However, if again the weather conditions do not allow the event to take place, the event is permanently cancelled and everyone is refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the date of the event, the money is not returned.
