Hiking on the Path of Apollo Hylates and Visit to the Archaeological Site of the Sanctuary

The Salonica View team is organizing a unique hiking experience on the Apollo Hylates Trail, in the historical area of ​​ancient Kourion.

A few words about our route:

We will start from Nicosia towards the Apollo Hylates Trail to ancient Kourion, with stops for boarding in Kofinou and Limassol. Upon our arrival in Kourion, we will have time to visit the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates. Then we will begin our hike on the 2 km linear trail. The route passes through lush vegetation with ravines and sparse pine trees, leading us to the ancient stadium of Kourion. At the end of the route, we will reach a hill with a panoramic view of the ancient settlement on the opposite slope and the beach of Episkopi. At the end of our hike there will be free time for rest and food before returning back to Nicosia.

Starting point: Opposite the archaeological site of the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, in ancient Kourion.
Route: Linear, distance 2 km.
Duration: Approximately 45 minutes
Difficulty level: 1 (easy route).

Points of interest:

Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates: One of the most important religious centers of ancient Cyprus, which was dedicated to Apollo, god of the forests, known as Hylates. The sanctuary is a symbol of ancient religion and was one of the most popular sanctuaries on the island. The Sanctuary of Apollo in the ancient city of Kourion was built with similar architecture to the sanctuaries of Apollo in Epidaurus and Argolis. It is said that the ancient Greeks built the sanctuaries of the god of light in areas with a special solar glow. Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates: One of the most important religious centers of ancient Cyprus, which was dedicated to Apollo, god of the forests, known as Hylates. Destruction and Abandonment: The destruction of the temple is placed at the end of the 4th century AD, after major earthquakes and the prevalence of Christianity on the island, which led to the abandonment of the cult of Apollo.

Note 3. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot participate on the specific date will be refunded. However, if the weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently canceled and everyone will be refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the event date, the money will not be refunded.
