Hiking on the nature trails ''Persephone'' and ''Calydonia'' - April 1

The Salonica View team is organizing a one-day hike on the Persephone and Caledonia nature trails in Troodos.

A few words about our excursion:

Our route will start from the Cyprus Handicraft Center in Nicosia, and we will head towards Troodos Square. Before our hike, we will have time for a quick coffee in the square. From Troodos Square, we will start our hike on the Persephone trail. Then, we will continue our route and enter the Caledonia nature trail. The starting point of the trail is the main road from Troodos Square to Platres, with a distance of 3km. During our route, we will have the opportunity to breathe the clean oxygen that the trees offer us, to listen to the gurgling water running in the Caledonia waterfall, and to pass through a dense forest that reminds us of a landscape from a dreamland. After the hike, there will be free time for rest and food/coffee in Platres.

Persephone Path

A very impressive path with excellent views where the walker passes through a dense black pine forest and with an excellent view of the Makria Kontarka location. Throughout the entire distance, the path offers you unique views and, at intervals, passes through beautiful clusters of trees and lush vegetation. It is an easy path of about 1-2 hours suitable for beginners and children over 8 years old accompanied by their parents.

Historical background - Caledonia Trail:

The history of the trail begins in 1878 when the English colonialists arrived on our island for the first time. At that time, the Cypriot people welcomed them as liberators because they had been enslaved for 370 years by the Ottoman Empire. The origin of the colonists was from an ancient Greek colony, Caledonia. The English colonists searched the mountains of the island for a place to build their settlement. The area they found ideal also included the Kryos River. They then created small lakes and large rivers where fish and crabs lived. They named the area Caledonia, after the Caledonia waterfall. When the settlers were forced to leave, the forest section embellished the ancient path that led from the top of Troodos to Platres, thus transforming it into a nature trail.

Note 2. For the best operation of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the guides.

Note 3. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot participate on the specific date will be refunded. However, if the weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently canceled, and everyone will be refunded. In case of cancellation by participants 7 days or less before the event date, the money will not be refunded.

Note 4. Photographic material is shared on our page and on social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you agree to the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please inform us.

Note 5. Cancellation Policy: In case of cancellation less than 48 hours before the event or a no-show, you will be required to cover the full cost of your participation. This policy applies to cover operating expenses and reservations that have already been made.
