Overview

The Salonica View team invites you to a unique excursion to the beautiful Ezousa Valley and the impressive Episkopi Rock.

A few words about our excursion:

Our group will start from Nicosia (Cyprus Handicraft Center) in the morning. Then, we will board with the first stop in Kofinou and make a second stop in Limassol. Later, we head to the Environmental Information Center in Episkopi Pafos. From there, we start hiking on the Ezousa Valley trail. During the hike there are many points with excellent views, but the most impressive view is from Episkopi Rock, also known as the Meteora of Cyprus, on which the church of Saint Hilarion the Great is built. In the middle of the route we will come across the ruins of a Turkish Cypriot village, called Moro Nero, which was abandoned, there are the ruins of the church (monument) of Saint Gennadios. Then we will come across three old watermills and old stone ditches that prove the timeless presence of man in the area. At the end of our hike, there will be time for rest and food in the area.

Points of interest:

Hiking in the Ezousa Valley: We will explore the beautiful paths of the Valley, where we will enjoy the impressive natural beauty, passing through forested landscapes and green river banks. From this point there is visibility to the Pafos Forest and the Troodos mountain range. Part of the route passes through the Ezousa River with lush vegetation, especially clusters of plane trees and alders.

Church of St. Hilarion: At the top of the Episkopi Rock is the church of St. Hilarion, dedicated to St. Hilarion the Great. From here you can enjoy a stunning view of the Ezousa Valley and admire the impressive nature around you.

Episkopi Rock: The Episkopi Rock is an impressive geological formation that offers a unique view of the area and is a rare ecosystem. The view from its top is impressive and combines the beauty of nature with the geological peculiarity of the place.

Hermitage of St. Hilarion: Below the Rock, near the old church, is the hermitage of St. Hilarion, where the Saint spent the last years of his life. The area, with its wild natural beauty, gives a sense of calm and devotion to visitors, making it ideal for those seeking spiritual peace and contact with nature.

Old Church of Saint Hilarion: The old stone-built church, which dates back to the Late Byzantine period (1100 AD), is located under the Rock and has been declared an ancient religious monument. In its ruins there are icons of Saint Hilarion, offering visitors the opportunity to light a candle and come into contact with the spirituality of the area.

Moro Nero: It is an abandoned village in the Paphos district, located isolated in nature and accessible only via the Nature Trail. It belonged to a mixed community of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, who abandoned it after the 1953 earthquake and the intercommunal riots of the 1960s. The village is home to the abandoned church of Saint Gennadios. Moro Nero is an important point of historical and cultural interest, due to the common worship of Agios Gennadios by Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
