Hiking in Caledonia and visit to the “Lavender” Thematic Center - November 16

The Salonica View team organizes a Hike on the Caledonia Nature Trail and a visit to the “Lavender” Thematic Center in Platres.

A few words about the Caledonia Trail:

Our starting point starts from the main road of Troodos Square to Platres with a distance of 3km. During our route we will have the opportunity to breathe the clean oxygen offered to us by the trees, to listen to the gurgling water running in the Caledonia waterfall and to pass through a dense forest which reminds us of a landscape from a dreamland. After the hike there will be free time for rest, food / coffee in Platres.

Historical flashback:

The history of the trail begins in 1878 when the English colonialists arrived on our island for the first time. Then the Cypriot people welcomed them as liberators because they had been in slavery for 370 years by the Ottoman Empire. The origin of the colonists was from an ancient Greek colony called Caledonia. The English colonists searched the mountains of the island for a place to build their settlement. The area they found ideal included the Kryos River. They then created small lakes and large rivers where fish and crabs lived. They named the area Caledonia after the Caledonia waterfall. When the colonists were forced to leave, the forest section embellished the ancient path that led from the top of Troodos to Platres, thus transforming it into a nature trail.

“Lavender” Thematic Center

In Platres we will visit the “Lavender” Thematic Center, a special place dedicated to the beloved aromatic plant. There we will have the opportunity to learn about the history and properties of lavender, tour the botanical garden and see products produced from it up close. This is a beautiful experience that combines knowledge, tradition and relaxation in nature.

9. Trekking poles (optional)

Note 1. For the best operation of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the escorts.

Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion will be transferred to another date. Participants who cannot participate on the specific date will be refunded. However, if the weather conditions still do not allow the event to take place, the event will be permanently canceled and everyone will be refunded.

Note 3. Photographic material is shared on our page and on social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you agree to the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please inform us.

Note 4. Cancellation policy: in case of cancellation less than 72 hours before the event or your failure to appear at the activity/excursion, you will be required to cover the full cost of your participation. This policy applies to the coverage of operating expenses and reservations that have already been made.

Note 5. Guides have the right to adjust the tour stops and the program depending on the time available, without omitting important points of interest.
