The Salonica View team organizes a one-day hiking trip through the areas of Machira - Lazania - Fikardos and Kalo chorio of Orinis.
A few words about our excursion:
Our route will start from the Nicosia Cypriot Handicrafts Center and we will head towards the Mahaira Monastery. From there we will walk the path that starts from the Monastery, crossing the picturesque village of Lazania. We will pass right next to and by the Pediaos River and we will end up in the village of Fikardou. Then we will continue from the village of Fikardou until we reach the finish line, the Archontidi center on the Kalos Choriou-Farmaka road. After the end of our hike, we will board the Bus and head to the village of Gourri for rest and food.

Points of interest:
--->The path crosses the Pedia River with rich flora and fauna. It is part of the European Path E4. It offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area.
A few words about the village of Lazania
Lazanias is a beautiful picturesque village with a rich history. It is located in the province of Nicosia. It is the closest village to the Mahaira Monastery. It is located at 900 meters and is currently inhabited by only one person. The name of the village refers to the name of the de Lusignan dynasty, the medieval kings of Cyprus. It is even characteristic that in the name of the village, the surname de Lusignan is preserved exactly as the inhabitants of Cyprus pronounced it at the time (Leontios Macheiras, for example, calls the de Lusignans or Lusignans as Lasaniades in his Chronicle).
A few words about the village of Fikardou
It is built on the southeastern slope of the Troodos mountain range, at a distance of approximately 40 kilometers southwest of Nicosia. Today the village is almost deserted and according to the 2001 census it has 3 inhabitants. Two roads lead to it, one from Klirou and the other from Kalo Horio Orinis. Nearby are the traditional village of Lazanias and the Monastery of Panagia tou Machairas.
The village is the property of the Department of Antiquities, which in 1978 declared the entire village an "Ancient Monument" and a "Controlled Area". The village has been declared by the Ministry of Transport and Works as a candidate UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fikardou as well as the surrounding villages were founded by residents of the occasionally sacked coastal towns, who were forced to flee to the mountains for safety.

Note 1. For the best functioning of the event and for safety reasons, participants must comply with the instructions of the attendants.
Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion is moved to another date. Participants unable to participate on that date will be refunded. However, if again the weather conditions do not allow the event to take place, the event is permanently canceled and everyone is refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the date of the event, the money is not returned.
