Starting Point

Salonica View Offices, next to Mikel Coffee – Dali

Meeting time: 12:15

Departure time: 12:30

Route Description:

The route begins from the Salonica View offices, with the first pedal strokes guiding us through the natural passage of the Gialias River. Following quiet dirt roads, we gradually leave the noise behind and enter a landscape filled with calmness and changing scenery.

Our ride continues towards the historic House of Aikaterini Kornaro, a site of strong cultural and symbolic importance. From there, we head to Agios Sozomenos, a place where natural beauty meets deep tranquility.

The route then continues in a circular direction towards Agios Dimitrianos, before leading us through the picturesque streets of Dali. We complete the journey by returning to the main road, having experienced a well-balanced cycling adventure that combines nature, history, and exploration.

Agios Sozomenos:

Agios Sozomenos is an abandoned village in the Nicosia district, deserted in 1964 following intercommunal conflicts and the displacement of its residents. The area includes a rock-cut church dedicated to Saint Sozomenos, featuring wall paintings and strong historical character. In the past, the village developed around the ascetic saint and his place of worship. Nearby stand the ruins of the medieval Latin church of Agios Mamas, with Gothic architectural elements, reflecting the area’s medieval presence.Agios Sozomenos was once a mixed village of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, a small reflection of Cyprus’ multicultural past, making it a place of memory, shared history, and peace.

Church of Agios Dimitrianos – Dali

The Church of Agios Dimitrianos is a small Byzantine, single-aisle domed church with simple stone architecture. It dates back to the medieval period and preserves fragments of old wall paintings. It is an important historical and religious landmark of the area.

Why Is It Called “The Owl Route”?

The route took its name from an authentic moment of exploration.
While designing the route, the Salonica View team discovered an owl’s nest in the area of Agios Sozomenos, hidden within the natural landscape.
