The office of outdoor activities and sports tourism Salonica View, organizes a 4-day, with 3 nights, excursion from Cyprus to Thessaloniki. Our tour, like any tour of our office will be full of action and adventure. All participants will have the opportunity to go rafting on the Aggiti River, enjoy a hot bath in the Pozar thermal baths and witness this geothermal phenomenon, where the water temperature is the same winter-summer. They will also visit the imposing waterfalls of Edessa and walk in its picturesque streets.
Day 1: We will depart from Larnaca airport on Friday afternoon to Thessaloniki airport. From the airport the bus will pick us up together with the experienced attendant from our office, to take us to our hotel, ABC Hotel, located opposite Kamara. When we arrive at the hotel, we will settle in the rooms and then we will have free time at night for food, walk and drink in Thessaloniki.
Day 2: We will wake up early to have our breakfast at the hotel. After we get ready and put on our swimsuits, as our excursion includes rafting on a river, we will board the bus to head to the village of Symvoli, Serres, 15 km outside the city of Drama. There our first stop will be the river Aggitis, where we will prepare for rafting descent. Then, after the completion of our activity, food will follow in the village of Proti, Serres. Finally, we will leave for return to Thessaloniki and our hotel.
Day 3: We will wake up in the morning and have breakfast. Once we are ready, wearing our swimsuit again, we will board the bus to the Pozar Baths. The first stop of our excursion will take place in the imposing waterfalls of Edessa which are located in a green park of age-old plane trees and cobbled paths. Next, we will reach the Pozar Baths with the thermal springs and the natural beauty of the place. There we will have time to swim in the warm waters. The place where we will be has taverns, where everyone can order food or coffee. After "relaxing" and enjoying as much as we can this earthly paradise we will return to Thessaloniki and our hotel, where we will have free time for the rest of the day.
Day 4: After breakfast we have all day in Thessaloniki for shopping, food and coffee. Late in the afternoon, however, we return to the hotel to get our luggage, board the bus and go to the Macedonian airport for our return to Cyprus.
Points of interest:
A few words about the gorge of Aggiti Potamos: It is the largest tributary of Strymon with a length of 75 km. Its springs are located in Drama and its gorge extends between the mountains Paggaio and Menoikio with a length of 15 km. The river crosses part of the prefecture of Drama and Serres. Also, its cave is the largest in length (river) cave in the world with 11 kilometers and the largest in Greece.
A few words about rafting: Rafting (rafting) is an outdoor recreational activity, which involves the descent of a river with an inflatable boat. The term rafting comes from the English word raft which means raft. Depending on the size of the boat, the number of passengers can be from 4 to 10 (including the driver). The current of the river determines the course of the boat, while the driver in the boat guides the crew and gives him the appropriate commands to paddle accordingly, so as to avoid the natural obstacles encountered during the descent. Rafting is the ideal way to combine action and contact with nature, but above all it is a team sport, which is based on the cooperation and harmonious operation of the team. In Aggitis river the crossing will be about 2-3 hours and it depends on the current of the river. In the middle of the route we will make a stop and on foot we will enter a large and dark cave. We will walk about 200 meters and go back. The degree of difficulty of the descent is 2. People can do without always having experience with the guidance of our escorts.
A few words about the Pozar Baths: The Pozar Baths, the spa town located in the shadow of Kaimaktsalan. The water of the baths gushes at a temperature of 37o C, has many healing properties and is drinkable. According to tradition, they were places of relaxation of the Macedonian kings after battles. It is also said that the spears of the Macedonian Phalanx were boiled in this place to make them more durable.
A few words about the waterfalls of Edessa: They are a natural phenomenon, which was created after a strong earthquake that struck the surrounding area in the 14th century. There are twelve waterfalls in number, of which only four are visible, while the rest due to the rich vegetation can not be easily seen.
