The Salonica View alternative tourism office organizes a one-day adventure trip to the spectacular Krasta Gorge.
A few words about our excursion:
At a distance of about one hour and forty minutes from Thessaloniki, near the forest and agricultural lands of the communities of Giannakochorio, Rodochori and Marina of the prefecture of Imathia flow the river Mega Rema, where we meet the gorge of Krasta. Our hike will start from the village of Giannakochori, specifically from the village square. Crossing a gravel road for about 15 minutes we will reach the starting point of the hike with the final destination of the waterfall where we will have time to dive for those who wish.
Our hike will be special and highly enjoyable as we will need to wade four times knee-deep in the water while crossing the river and once at the point called Black Harbor up to the waist. Therefore we will definitely need to have second clothes and shoes with us so that we can change at the end. Also definitely bring water with us as the canyon water is not potable. And our adventure becomes even more enjoyable at the point where we will climb a rope of about three meters during our route to the waterfall!
The route in the canyon to the waterfall is easy without big altitude differences and a total duration of 5 hours. Then we will leave Giannakochori where we started and head for food four kilometres away, in the village of Rodochori, where we will have the opportunity to taste traditional dishes of the region in a place with a stunning view of the mountain.

Krastas Gorge:
It is 90m long, and 100-250m high. and is located approximately 300m. above sea level. The hill of Krasta at the height of 520m. dominates with the limestone rocks where in the spring we meet the queen of herbs, the crimson wild Peony. There we will also meet the Askitario, a two-story building with battlements where about 200 years ago it was the seat of bandits. There are also testimonies of caves nearby where that were used as a hidden school.
Krasta Waterfall:
It is located at an altitude of 270m. and is suitable for diving.

Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion is moved to another date. Participants unable to participate on that date will be refunded. However, if again the weather conditions do not allow the event to take place, the event is permanently cancelled and everyone is refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the date of the event, the money is not returned.
Note 3. Photographic material is shared on our page and social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you also accept the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please let us know.
