The Salonica View alternative tourism office organizes a festive one-day hike with a climb to Arvanitis Peak 2023m. in the Pieria Mountains and relaxation in the chalet of the ski center in Elatochori.
A few words about our excursion:
We will start early in the morning from Thessaloniki and after about 1:30 hours we will reach the ski center of Elatochori in the Pieria Mountains. The Pieria Mountains are located northwest of Olympus and are a forested mountain that spreads across three prefectures, Pieria, Kozani, and Imathia. From the ski center of Elatochori, we will start our ascent to conquer the fourth highest peak, Arvanitis at 2023m. altitude.
We will hike for several kilometers on the forest road through the beautiful lush mountain forests of oaks, beeches, chestnuts, firs, and black pines as we climb, while rare species of wildflowers carpet our feet. The view is excellent, Mount Olympus to the south and Thermaikos Gulf to the east are with us all along the way, playing hide and seek with the trees.
Then we enter a path that leads to the small plateau of the top, seeing the wooden sign that reads "Thomas Rachi - Arvanitis" and marks the way to the top.
From Arvanitis peak at 2023m. the view is amazing, to the south Olympus in all its glory, to the east Thermaikos with Hortiatis and Thessaloniki, to the north Vermio, Seli and the lake of Polyphytos which can be seen low, while to the west the entire plateau of Kozani up to Ptolemaida and Askio.
Afterward, filled with wonderful images and the joy of conquering the summit, we will start our descent towards the chalet of the Elatochori ski center, where we will have free time to relax before we depart for Thessaloniki.

NECESSARY EQUIPMENT

– A small backpack for personal items on hikes.
– Hat-Gloves
– Waterproof windproof jacket
– Bottle of water (at least 1.5 liters)
– Dried fruits, energy bar-chocolate-nuts-pastry-toast
– A change of clothes to leave on the bus in case they get wet
Note 1. When you click to book, declare in the message where you will take the bus from. The options are Voulgari (Everest), Aristotelous (Statue of Venizelos) or One Salonica.
Note 2. In case of cancellation of the event due to bad weather conditions, the excursion is moved to another date. Participants unable to participate on that date will be refunded. However, if the weather conditions do not allow the event to occur again, the event is permanently canceled and everyone is refunded. In case of cancellation by the participants, 7 days or less before the date of the event, the money is not returned.
Note 3. Photographic material is shared on our page and social media after each event. By participating in a Salonica View event, you also accept the sharing of photos. Otherwise, please let us know.
